This company should be shut down. They are the worst of the worst. DO NOT USE! I sent in a pay off check for my daughters car and they cant seem to find it although tracking has been provided and my bank shows it cashed by them. They hang up on you after struggling to understand very broken english from all reps. When you call back the same number, it says its disconnected. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Pro tip, never lease with Ally. Save yourself the headache. It's an absolute nightmare to get out of it. They screw you over as many times as possible. Their website is useless. The payoffs they give to dealers change every time they pull it. I work at a dealership, I've pulled it 3 times in a matter of minutes and it changes by THOUSANDS every time. Absolutely predatory. It's a lease, there shouldn't be multiple trade-in payoffs. Tried to use the payoff at one of the numbers, and all said and done, they claimed it was wrong, and I had to come out of pocket THOUSANDS. Seems as though there should be a class action lawsuit for how they conduct business.

Absolutely the WORST customer service. Outdated business practices. In the year of 2025 a company of this magnitude is using snail mail for a signature whereas most companies are using electronics signatures or another form of e-document signature. I’ve requested several times to have my due date changed and specifically told them to not send the document to my address on file but to send it where I was currently at. Well the geniuses sent it to the home address I specifically stated not to send to. Now because someone couldn’t follow simple instructions I had to call again. When I finally received the document, signed it and faxed it back I called to confirm and was told “oh this one expired and you’ll need to submit another one. On top of that occurred a late fee due their incompetence. Definitely seeking other financing.

Ally required me to spend money on notarizations and CPA-prepared financial statements before they even reviewed my income for a refinance application. I spent over $405 on documents they demanded up front, only to be denied credit once everything was submitted. No lender should force customers to pay for notarized paperwork and accountant services before basic income verification. The process was unfair, costly, and wasted my time — I would strongly caution anyone considering Ally for auto financing.

I have had a car loan with Ally Bank since March 2023. Since January 2024, due to financial hardship, I reached out multiple times requesting temporary payment assistance and a clear explanation of amounts required to stop repossession or a charge-off. Despite repeated emails, phone calls, and filing complaints with the BBB, CFPB, and NJBOP, I received vague responses that did not address my specific questions. At one point, an employee suggested I apply to Ally’s careers page as a “solution” to my hardship—an unhelpful and inappropriate response. Multiple agents have contacted me or my family but provided no actionable guidance. Recent communications still lack clear breakdowns, explanations, or solutions, and I am left at risk of losing my vehicle despite my efforts to resolve this responsibly. This experience has been stressful, exhausting, and demonstrates a concerning lack of accountability and communication from Ally Bank. I hope this review helps others be aware and prompts the company to improve its customer service practices.

If it were possible to give ZERO stars . . . I would. I financed my new vehicle with Ally through the dealership I purchased from. I thought that they must be okay if dealerships are working with Ally. WRONG!!!! This company is horrible to deal with. The call center is in “God knows where” and none of the representatives understands English. They speak it but understand nothing. When I moved and tried to register my vehicle in the state I’m moving to . . . WOW! What a major task. I’ve been trying to get the title department to send the common documents to the new state but have not achieved this after 4 weeks now. The people from DMV in my new state have never seen incompetence like this. I’m still not registered after a month. But Ally bombards you with ads and sales crap on a daily basis. Asked them to stop but they have not. I will never, ever use Ally for anything.

Ally's customer service started out great several years ago when I first began banking with them. However, recently, we have run into an issue involving a not-insignifincant amount of money being stolen from us via a fraudulent transaction. As a result, we have had to contact customer service multiple times, and it's clear Ally has started using offshore customer service reps who speak limited English and are clearly reading off of a script. When they aren't doing that, they are downright rude and unhelpful. Our situation with the fraudulent transaction is still unresolved, and Ally has been incredibly unhelpful with everything. Once we get our money back, we will absolutely be banking elsewhere.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! The loan practices are to hide the interest and finance charges from the balance they display to you. At the end, you'll find out you owe more than agreed, and they will charge interest on interest to ensure you stay in the cycle of never getting it completed payed off..and you will always be "2 payments" away from pay-off.

After paying off my auto loan with Ally Financial, I never received my title for my vehicle. After calling, wasn’t able to find out where it was sent, just not to the correct address. Was told how sorry they was, but no effort to figure out where the mistake was made.

Do not look to this company to be helpful in any type of way. Lost my job and wanted to do a volunteer surrender on my vehicle so I don’t incur any added financial problems and this company did not honor this request but instead continue to send me failure to pay notices going on two months now so that I will have a repossession instead of a volunteer surrender on my 700+ credit score. I am so glad I never made the decision to bank with them.

Customer service sucks. "Linda" barely speaks English. I couldn't understand half of what she said. My husband had to assist. Apparently he understands illiteracy better than me. She was zero help with a simple problem.

the consumer service is terrible BUT like a lot of reviews, they hold your money or give you a hard time about paying off your loan early. I have had 6 car loans with them and this was the worst, and I do pay my bills on time. and they got the pay off but won't release the title. and the 3!!!! ( 2 of them were supposed to be management ) did not know the laws for my state when I comes to releasing the title.

SCAM RIPOFF ok let me explain. So usually a contract right you pay the monthly payment which includes all finance interest accrued during the month. Now ally Finance if you already paid your monthly payment interest and all. Let’s say you want to pay an extra 1000 dollars a week later. The app says it will applied to the principal. But THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FINANCE FEES on that too !!! I even call the trash customer service and told them I want my extra payment to go towards the principal. And they said they can’t do that. That I will be charged more feees apart from my monthly payment !!!! What the heck !!!???!!!!! “Just do extra payments on the same day”. I was like dude I get paid every two weeks. This is nonsense. I had car loans before and ALL EXTRA MONEY I paid went to the principal. They are a ripoff.

Ally repossessed my vehicle at the auto body shop while I was in court with the shop. A hearing is scheduled for September due to the shop's failure to properly repair the vehicle. Ally claimed to have paid $5,000 to the shop on my behalf, as I had not paid for the repairs, despite having proof that the shop had already cashed the check. My vehicle contained personal belongings valued at over $1,000, including a leather chair, dashcam, a friend's package, floor mat, phone holder, and another package, which Ally refused to return. Ally falsely reported to the credit bureau that I had missed the August payment, leading to the repossession. When I contacted Ally, they either hung up on me, placed me on an extended hold, or yelled at me, demanding payment of $5,000 plus a $599 interest fee to retrieve my vehicle. I attempted to explain that the auto body shop had misrepresented the situation, but Ally refused to listen. They informed me that my vehicle would be sold on August 28. I have been making timely payments on the vehicle since February 2024, and the vehicle remains insured. I did not receive an affidavit of defense, as I had requested that it not be sent to me. The bank stated that they were protecting their interests, which I acknowledge, while also asserting my own interests in ensuring that I do not take possession of a vehicle that has not been properly repaired or has missing parts. This is why I was dealing with the shop, and Ally intervened without first contacting me to verify the accuracy of the shop's claims. I possess all necessary documentation to support my position. How do I pay for something that I don't owe? What is the reason Ally took the vehicle?

No one at the company tells you the same thing and you get transferred to different departments. For weeks they kept saying they did not receive the check from the insurance company, so the insurance company put a stop payment on the check and reissue a new one. Because of that I could not make any other payments on line. I sent a certified check for the August payment and they trying to say it take 7 to 10 days for the mail from the post office. From Maryland to NC it doesn't take that long. I mailed it on August 4th and they claim they still haven't received it. No one at the company on the same page you get different information each time you called. I will never bank with them again.

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the handling of my auto loan account following a total loss incident involving my vehicle, financed through Ally. Approximately one year ago, I obtained an auto loan through Ally. Recently, the vehicle was involved in a no-fault accident and was declared a total loss by my insurance provider. The insurance company acted promptly, issuing payment for the claim, and Ally reflected that payment in the loan portal without delay. However, the remaining balance—expected to be covered by the service contract refund and GAP insurance—has not been properly applied. Despite confirmation that these payments were being processed, Ally has refused to update the payment status in the portal. Instead, I was instructed to continue making payments out-of-pocket while the funds are “processed.” This raises serious concerns about transparency and fairness. If Ally has received the funds, they should be applied immediately to the account. Delaying this process while pressuring customers to pay upfront creates the appearance of unethical financial practices. I attempted to resolve this issue through customer service. Unfortunately, the first representative I spoke with was difficult to understand due to excessive microphone noise, even after I requested a correction. When I was transferred to the total loss department, my concerns were dismissed with the statement that “we encourage customers to keep making payments” This experience has left me deeply concerned about Ally’s commitment to customer care and ethical business practices. I am requesting a full review of my account, immediate application of all pending payments, and a written explanation of Ally’s procedures regarding service contract and GAP insurance refunds. If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will consider escalating the issue to relevant consumer protection agencies.

Ally Bank restricted my debit card and then "closed" my account. They didnt notify or tell me this, so I found out when trying to use my card to pay my mortgage. I tried to make a transfer to another account, and their sysyem said my account was restricted. When I called, they claimed my account was closed bc it had been compromised. I told them my card was in my possession and not compromised. They insisted my account was closed and the only way to get my money out to pay my bills was to close the account and wait 7 to 10 days for a check to be mailed to me.... which is going to cause me late charges for all my bills! Additionally despite claiming my account was closed, I still had to submit a request to close my account that was already supposedly closed!!! And now I will have to wait possibly 2 weeks to get my money mailed to me in a check to pay my bills which is going to make my mortgage payment LATE! Worst bank in America--dont bank here!!!
