Do not bank with this Scotiabank!!! It’s a long story that I don’t want to get into right now, but will when the time is right.

Scotiabank? Customer or wanna be??? ALERT! They have ZERO fraud protection. Week after week. 9k then 5 k then 2k stolen from our account Then multiple groceries delivered to a scammer. Gift cards bought. THROUGH OUR ACCOUNT! We have every security known to be available through scotiabank. 2 step verification. Text. One phone only so nothing can be done without having your actual phone to verify. AND! E-TRANSFER. someone e-transfered 4K to themselves and went into a branch to have it done. Somehow the person with zero ID ZERO actual verification accessed our account and transferee. Luckily I spotted it and called fraud dept. how can this be? Today Sept 29th.2025 someone used 7k on our credit card. Called scotiabank. Had the credit amount raised and spent an extra 3k on card. UNBELIVEABLE. Then to make it even worse. In Sept 2025 in 29 days we’ve spent over 15 hrs on the phone with them to resolve. So every weekend it seems instead of taking a break from it all. You know. A weekend? We get to spend 3-6 hrs a weekend on the phone. Put on hold to “verify” for 30-50min at a time. Only to be told. Well we don’t know why this is happening but we will review and get your money back to you in 10 business days. WTF??????????? PLEAEE NEVER EVER USE THIS poor excuse for a bank. Headed there tomorrow to close out our accounts. Rip up credit cards. Start all over somewhere else. Manage all the auto payments to be redone. Bills etc. Hours and hours of work. I wish all these scammers would drop dead. Enough already with this. GO GET A JOB AND WORK YOU LOWLIFE TRASH. wow. Hasn’t everyone had enough? 30 scam calls on phone a day. My crypto account hacked. Business Facebook account hacked and this prick used my account to spend a couple grand on advertising their own account through mine. Daily agony. Going back to paying cash. No cards. No online banking. No paying bills online to get scammed most likely by someone that works there. Enough already. Good luck world

Worst bank I have ever dealt with every single week there mobile app is acting up they have taken 2000 dollars out of my account over 3 years and said it was there error but never did repay back what was taken out of my account. Scotiabank is the last bank I would ever recommend to deal with.. I like a bank where when I make my account a certain way they keep it that way not change it on there own without being asked too do so. Scotiabank=headache

This is the worst bank in history ( Thunder Bay Branch) . Everyday online banking is under construction. This bank should be dismantled and burnt to the ground. I feel sorry for the cashiers. Their system is a joke always down it’s 2025 people get it together I swear there’s junior high kids can do a better job at running your system 😡 I’m constantly standing in line and card is declined doesn’t work EMBARRASSING I can’t ever get my money out my account is constantly locked and under construction. I was out of town and couldn’t not access my funds😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 . DO NOT deal with this bank among others we are also going to lawyers now they have caused so much stress past 4 yrs I regret ever being involved with this bank.

So, on m Monday sept 1 I hit up the ATM on 118th and 82nd, and tried to deposit a bunch of cash. The machine didn't take it all. It was an atm cash jam the machine spit out a receipt that gave me instructions to call the bank with a special number. I think I put in like, a grand to fifteen hundred bucks, but I can't really remember because the machine puked the money back out. I called the bank the next day to complain and gave them the number. Today's the 18th, and I haven't heard a peep from them. I've been calling and calling, and they say they're working on it, but it doesn't feel like they're doing anything. Nobody cares, you know? The big banks are just screwing us little guys.

Setting up a bank account was an absolute trainwreck of an experience. I couldn't activate my card online as prompted, so I had to call for help, and it was drawn out and mostly unhelpful. Then, after depositing my money, my account stopped working online again. I have ultimately decided to switch to another bank, before I even had a chance to use Scotiabank. Great job.

Wow, scotiabank double charged me and even though I have a record of it, they refuse to acknowledge it and cancel the fake charges. Unbelievable that this is seen as a reputable company. Do not bank with Scotia, they will steal your money.

approved for 7500 credit line by error!!!!! i’ve been with scotia for 17 years!! i received a notice on my mobile app stating i was pre approved for a line of credit … i called and asked how it was possible that i was approved that i shouldn’t have been … asked if it was a scam or fraudulent.. customer service reassured me that no it’s not a mistake or scam that i was approved and to wait for my card in mail to activate it … which i received very quickly and activated … i was actively using my line of credit made large payments as well as made my minimum payments on time !! i had visited the branch multiple times in the time frame of being approved over the fraud department shutting down the card as there were purchase and such that were unusual… in which i thought was awesome for them to do that and keep my account safe …. approximately 4 weeks later my card was declined multiple times k called customer service to be told k was approved by error along with several others and that they closed it down and can no longer use it … ive asked multiple questions about interest i’m paying as well as insurance and such on a line of credo that j can no longer use!!! THEY CANT ANSWER ONE OF my questions as they don’t understand the situation themselves !! i talked to my branch manager who was also unaware of what is happening … i was told to wait for a letter thats it !!! in which it’s 4 weeks later and no letter to be found .. they have done this with no notice to customers and haven't made this situation public at all !! all they keep saying is their sorry .. i only discovered that it is much more then several people who are dealing with this but the number is now in the thousands i was able to find others in my situation on a forum on reddit thats was it !!!! scotia bank is a complete fraudulent bank ive lost all trust with them not to mention the fact that they won’t honour the signed agreement i made with them as the agreement for the libe of credit … basically they can do this as these were offered to those with credit scores that don’t make eligibility and if ur credit score drops they can shut your line down !! they’re requesting those who had them to come to branch and close them !! my branch manager advised me to not close it down !!

Would give negative stars if I could. I was a potential new customer. I received my card in the mail. I try to activate online, but the online portal glitches and says the details on my card are invalid. I call in to activate the card; rep says it is activated; I check online it still won't let me access my online banking; rep says it will be good to go by 12am midnight. Next day, online portal is still not working and is asking me to activate my card again; I call back in. Rep goes through a series of ridiculous questions about account details; I repeat multiple times I am a new customer just trying to activate my card, I have no activity or knowledge of anything on my account yet. Rep still continues to ask security questions that I have no knowledge of. I express my frustration as I have repeated multiple times that I am a new customer and I have no idea about anything on my account yet. Rep hangs up. Terrible customer service. Terrible security question flow. Terrible technical workflow (if online portal just worked none of this would have been an issue). Overall just terrible customer experience with this bank. They need to have a minimum IQ threshold for their CSRs and/or build an online portal that actually works. It's 2025 now; there's no excuse for your web app not to be working especially from a large financial institution.

Run! This is the absolute second worst experience with a bank, I called for a quote on a mortgage rewrite in October....it took until February 2025 to be declined due to my retirement status. Super stressful and waste of Time. Now, my partner has been scammed from an insider with Scotiabank for the last 6 weeks resulting in phone calls from the fraud department daily, sometimes as late as 10 pm at night. Today he got a call that a lady in Ontario was also scammed with a deposit to his (frozen) credit card so he has to run down to the bank to pay her back! what the actual F---!

Terrible experience. No accountability from the fraud team. Incident reported Jul 16, 2025 same day as the fraud occurred and it is now Sep 9. I’ve escalated the matter, called several times for an update, been advised that a Manager will call me back. To date I am none the wiser whether the matter has been resolved. Gobsmacked as to how clients are being treated by this bank!!

⭐ *Customer Review: Disappointed First Impression at Port Credit Branch* I booked an online appointment with Scotiabank’s Port Credit branch for **September 8, 2025 at 2:30 PM. clearly outlining the purpose: to discuss .checking accounts, credit cards, and a safety deposit box. I received a confirmation email over the weekend with all the details—so far, so good. However, on the day of the appointment, I received a call at *11:45 AM* from someone at the branch asking what the appointment was for—and referencing a *3:15 PM time slot*, which was incorrect. Not only did the staff member have the wrong time, but they also had no idea what the meeting was about, despite the confirmation emails. For someone who’s considering switching banks after **30 years** and potentially bringing a *large financial portfolio*, this was a disappointing and disorganized start. It felt like my time and business weren’t valued. Here’s how that call *should* have gone: > “Hi, I see you have an appointment today at 2:30 PM regarding a checking account, credit card, and safety deposit box. Unfortunately, I’m unavailable at that time—can I arrange for a colleague to assist you, or would you prefer to reschedule?” That kind of professionalism would’ve gone a long way. **Do better, Scotiabank.**

Listened to "soothing" flute music while being told my "call is very important to them". But if my call was so important to them I wouldn't be waiting for 30 minutes to talk to a representative. In fact I wouldn't have had time to decide to write this review about their atrocious hold times while trying to call about my mortgage.

My last review regarding this topic has been about a year ago. At that time and since I have contacted various levels of Scotia Bank and have never received a response. I'm sorry to say that I gave up. It is regarding serious problems that still exist with their new on line system and reports. They had tried to force customers in 2024 to only use the new online system and were planning on dropping the "Classic View" October, 2024. I assume that they had so many problems (and complaints) with the new system that "Classic View" was not discontinued until last month. The problems with the new system were not corrected and It was just removed as a customer option without any advice. I'm writing this review as my previous contact with the bank has never been replied to or for that matter acknowledged and customers deserve to know that there still is some serious problems. I thought I would contact directly the office of the President and/or CEO but cannot locate any contact information. Briefly, some problems still are: 1) If a detail list of investments such as GIC's is printed, there are investments missing from the printout. 2) The "print buttons" on the bank system have been removed and if a "screen print" is used the date printed can only be accessed if the "header and footer" selection is made. If this is not done the printout basically becomes useless if it is used without a date. 3) unless the print size is reduced to 50 or 60% it is a waste of ink and many extra pages depending on what you are printing. 4)...and more. I would not be writing this second review if some one at the bank (local or higher) would have contacted me to work to resolve these as well as other problems I had identified and/or retained my option to use either the new printouts or the previous classic view. I know that to carry both versions must be expensive but we deserve confidence that our accounts are safe and the new system doesn't provide this.

Is Scotiabank the worst out of big 5? Possibly. There is saying that when you buy a car you should think about how you will sell it in the future. The same definitely applies to Scotiabank business account. When you open one with them good luck closing it later. I have been trying to close for a week now with no success so far. Initially I called business phone line which sent me to the home branch who in their turn sent me to a virtual advisor who was on vacation and noone replied his emails or voicemails in his absence. Another call to business line who sent me to branch manager this time, who said because of Scotia Connect service is activated the branch can't close it and was surprised the phone line could not disconnect it themselves. Another call to phone line who said they can't do it, but branch manager should be able to do it. Now it's a full loop. As of now they are trying to figure it out between departments. What a mess for such a simple task (in theory)!
