"I have submitted a request to open an invetsment account with Qtrade few days ago . New comer to Calgary , no job but with some savings and with a Big hope that i would be able to buy a condo in 5 years via FHSA program .Needles to say i have filled ALL the docs they needed and all the requested pages online . I have filled "zero" on my current employment income , "zero" on my familly side ( im a family of ONE...huh? ) , so having that said clicked "submit" . Day after , email comes , "pls double check the emplyment section... and confirm the income is zero . replied to email with the exact same numbers , few days pass , the EXACT same request is coming , is your income really zero ? Yes it is ,, do you really think i have a sadistic pleasure to add the magic number zero on my employment income ? Id rather associate this number with you, and actually , this is the thing that im actually gonna do ,by not opening an account with 0trade . I think by replacing the Q with zero on your title ,i am actually doing the world a favor , informing them about your actual level of service . "Please read before using this company. Qtrade is riddled with fee's there's a quarterly administrative fee $38, that If you don't pay they sell your stocks to cover it, without consulting with you first. Then you have the buy and sell fee of $6 per buy and $6 per sell. And then when you've had enough and transfer to a good platform for retail investors (Wealthsimple) there's a $150 fee. Please do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from Qtrade you will be paying more fee's than making any money. Don't recommend at all."

"I connected my bank to Qtrade so that I could withdraw money from my non-registered cash account. When I went to transfer the money I found that I could send funds TO Qtrade but not withdraw FROM qtrade. I messaged Qtrade and was messaged back the next day sayng that my bank would appear in the correct drop down menu in 1 or 2 business days. Unacceptable!"
"This place was told to close an investment account then kept charging management fees. I called to get funds transferred out to my bank account and was told it was done. Months later I get an email asking for my SIN # birthdate etc to transfer out funds. They have nearly $5000 still and have been charging me management fees while money sits idele in an account doing nothing."

"When you are actively managing a portfolio, time is money. I've have become increasingly frustrated with Qtrade. Terrible execution speed on trades - I've had to wait for as long as 3 minutes for my trades to be "reviewed" before they open in the market. Missed many entries. Lately, they've instituted a "security feature" where you are automatically logged out if inactive for 15 minutes. Hitting a refresh button does not count as "activity"; you have to actually navigate through the website in some way. And today, the only option that's been available on the Equity Order Entry page is "Sell"!! This is amateur hour!! Looking for an alternative..."

"There is a yearly T3 slip that Qtrade issues. They wait until the ** very last day ** that they can legally have to send customers the slip. This despite the fact that they are summarizing info that they have had for 3 months!! Last year we missed submitting the slip (because it wasn't available), and we are still dealing with CRA over this. This year? It's two days before our accountant wants our documents, and still no QTrade T3. Could I complain to them? Maybe, although they make it very difficult to reach anyone!"
"Finally got my account transferred out, Qtrade slow walks them once the find out a transfer has been initiated. They also lock down your accounts so that any cash sitting in it cannot be invested. The only thing they are quick at doing is passing the buck when they screw up and charging fees."

"New Frustrations. In the last 6 months the infomation on the platform has become frustrating by it's abscence. No or only one competitior for any CDN account. eg. RY has LB as it's only competitor. CNQ has none. The Interactive section is useable for one stock at a time beyond the current day option. The message "Logarythmic scales can't be used with benchmarks" OK...that's a few weeks ago and what the *** does it mean. Simply buying a stock has become an extented effort at guessing to get the job done. No longer able to transfer US$ to the account from Vancity and no advice on how to do it. I've alerted them of my concerns and no response other than thanks for my concerns and we'll pass them on. I'm checking out Questrade and if I get comfortable with a new system it will be goodbye."

"Platform is fairly robust, especially when compared with others that gamify their dashboard. My review would have been 1-star otherwise. I've been with the platform for about 6 years now. Their customer service ranges from barely adequate to unresponsive. The platform does not allow certain trades, requiring a $250 fee and a phone call. In 2026. Emails go without response for weeks at a time. Calls are regularly on hold for 45+ minutes. When they do respond, it's short, terse and without any semblance of consistency - i.e. reps do not check your account notes. All around bad. If I could transfer my entire portfolio without incurring capital gains, I'd be long gone."
